When I joined Square, the design system for email was somewhat established, but it wasn't as refined as I would have liked. I made it my mission to perfect email. By creating header styles, consistent body modules, and dynamic spot illustrations, I moved email from being the stepchild of design to something that all of our marketing partners wanted to work on.
When working on email campaigns, we consider audience and the type of merchant who will be receiving the email. In this first case, we separated out retail merchants from non-retail merchants because Back-to-School varies hugely by industry. With the Square Loyalty campaign, I created a mobile-optimized version that features a zoomed in version of the image.
