I decided to revisit my roots for this week. Margot Tenenbaum. I've drawn her many times, but this time I wanted to simplify her as far as I could while maintaining her essence. This room best represents her relationship with her family. I couldn't help but place her here.
I've been having a couple of intense weeks. I'm changing jobs. I'm having some health crises. It wasn't hard to draw, but it was hard to get it up. I made this a while back, but I'm still happy to post it.
Today is the first week of my new project, Creative Recess. I was inspired by designers like Jessica Hische and Alex Proba. I also watched Julie & Julia over the Christmas holiday. The idea of making something every day intrigued and terrified me. And, as a woman with a full-time job, a social life (so much DnD), and a rambunctious puppy, I thought that perhaps a weekly cadence would suit me better.
But I needed accountability. So I brought in my #squad.
Anna Smylie Caldwell, data vis designer extraordinaire. She has a very cute cat, Ravioli.
Jen Murse, brilliant builder and maker. She led me to find my clothing personality: genius.
Jess Gray, product designer with no fears and endless ideas. Her hair game is tops.
We all met through our work at Square, mostly through a group founded by Claudia Ng and Effy Zhang called Creative Ladies. And we all happened to be back from the winter break at the same time. Each of us wanted to work on our creative process outside of work, but we're busy ladies with badass lives. I gathered us together on the 8th floor in a little conference room after schmoozing them individually. We are all on board. We each have a topic to start us off. Every week we'll make new things, share them, and celebrate our love of design.
My goal is to have fun drawing again.
